We'll Meet Again.

As I fell into a slumber
In the small hours of the night
I saw your face before me
It was bathed in golden light

Your cheeks were flushed and glistened
In the half light from the fire
Lips so soft yet petulent
As if a question to enquire

Yet not a word was spoken
As your eyes burned into mine
Deep as pools of midnight oil
As if asking for a sign

I would not, could not reach for you
Was this really just a dream
Your scent was all around me
Like a shroud and yet unseen

I felt your breath upon me
Just a whisper on the wind
My heart was beating wildly
Then you touched my brow and grinned

I felt the tears well in my eyes
My throat constrict with pain
As your form begins to fade away
And leave me once again

I loved you then so long ago
And yes we'll meet again
But mine is in the here and now
Yours on another plain.

So let me be and haunt me not
I walk this earth alone
Next time we meet, we'll be as one
And paradise our home.
