A friend wrote and asked me about lonliness.. and what is there to say about that?
If I am alone
then telling
someone about
loneliness
spoils it all
What is the essence
of that solitary unwanted state
he said, out of academic interest
It's not anything much, I said
it makes no noise
or even: too damn little
so you hear precious little
when you are alone
no voice interrupts
your study of the content
of the bellybutton
and any caller
is bound to have rung
the wrong number
and never stays
online longer
than to apologize
for the intrusion
I know lots
about loneliness
but in my solitude
i have no one to tell
