Thoughts on Iraq

The battles of a mighty nation
carried out in simulation
press a button, all that's seen
is an explosion on a screen
it's strange that this idea of war
holds no real terror anymore
forgotten now are all the screams
and all the broken, shattered dreams
of all those people forced to leave
their homes, mourning their lost in grief.
The horrible reality
of war has somewhat ceased to be

You are completely right. The 'excitement' of war has ceased to amaze anyone. The tribes of the ancients still fight amongst themselves as they have for hundreds or perhaps thousands of years.

In the end, nobody wins. Everybody loses.

Bravo. We as civilized people should surely be able to find a way to solve our differences without blowing each other up. I think people have been desensitized to war, having seen the bombings and fires right there on our TV screens, as if it's just another HBO special. That's the trouble with abstract terms like "war" and "freedom." They take attention away from all the killing and dislocation that takes place in war. And, of course, both sides of any war thinks its the right side.
