You Should've Said

Those who
Are the first in the queue
To Volunteer
Without doubt or fear
Just when the deed
Is past your hour-of-need,
Emphatically claim
That it was such a shame
That you hadn't asked
Them to be tasked
Before they'd
Made
Other arrangements to help someone else that very afternoon -
Then goodbye with a: "Do ask again, soon."

Marie Cadavieco The PoetBay support member heart!
I laughed when I read this, not a laugh of humour but of cynicism. Easy to offer, when you know the answer will be 'no'. A sharp observation of one of the less amiable sides of human nature, written in your own inimitable style.
