Forward

I watch you
As you struggle as I did
Yet I cannot offer you any contentment.
Your grief is yours to claim...
An original thing that will sing
In your ears alone.

But I see how it is
I remember those knives
How they slice and puncture
Each piece of you..without any
Sweet release...
No pauses...
Look into my eyes new widow
I can explain how you might survive...

First we forgive ourselves our yesterdays
And laugh at our tomorrows
You did not make him die...
I know thats what you are thinking.

Sid Gardner
A poignant poem to remember the loss of a dear friend and shared sorrow with concern for one who loved him.

"An original thing that will sing" is my favorite line in this poem. In the end nobody can feel our sadness for us--or our joy for that matter. But there is some comfort to be found in the fact that we've all had our share of bad times and that we can articulate it in poetry or art.
