for Ella...my mother

Joint

Two choices she said as she smiled at me
Live and be happy or sad
Work hard
Play well
With discernment-
Stay away from the chronically bad.

Eat your greens and sow your oats
Hurt nobody intentionally
Love sweetly those who care for you
Live in peace and enjoy your world.
Joy will arrive eventually.

As you grow older you will realise
True love is given freely...
In our joint understood thoughts we knew
How to love each other deeply.

Now Ella is gone but not far away...
She is waiting to uncrumble my bones
Two choices I have as I think of her...
I smile as I sing her to home.

Hi Jenks...this is a beautiful poem...and how lucky
you were to have this wise woman as a mother

It is obvious your mother was a great lady and imparted much wisdom on you. I wish her the good journey as you sing her spirit home. Beautiful.
