Caramel Summer
The first boy I kissed,
our teeth clashed,
trickier than it looked
I thought,
worried about tooth enamel
he tasted of caramel
and beach winds.
We sat on windy steps
held hands.
I swam like a fish
lost him in the froth'
resurfacing, we watched
dolphins following mackeral sholes.
Sunset dancing, so close
what I thought was his belt buckle
dug into my pelvis.
The summer of my first kisses
snaked along
drawing hearts in the sand,
I worried about enamel
and the sweetness of caramel.
