To anyone who grew up in Reading... or indeed any other shit town. =]

Reading Town

We got paid yesterday, and now I'm broke,
But lets go to the city anyway,
Navigate the town, explore the day,
We've no money, but I'll lend you a smoke
If you'll chill with me and the city folk,
Fuck public transport; we can hitch our way,
Let the weather decide how long we stay,
Give me your company, whilst we elope.

We end up in town, the light's just going,
Beneath the railway bridge, some tramp's throwing,
Stand with me by the road and share some herb,
In dirty light, rain dances on the curb,
I smile as the train passes us up above,
Because right now I'm in the place I love.

Typical city life. Some love it, some hate it. But your poem is like a novel, and also relates to some fond memories that I have at the back of my head. It's nice to read unique poetry - written with just pure experiance. Keep sharing, James.

Regards,
John.

The sonnet is the perfect vehicle for a love poem, and you've used it very well. There is no truer love than love of place.

I've never been a city boy, but I think this is universal.
