For an old friend who I haven't seen in a while.

A Sonnet for a Happier Man.

You've changed a lot in the last year, mostly you've grown,
You laugh easier, and straighten your hair,
You argue better, and dress with more flair,
You've started to think, cast off and thrown
Away your right wing views. I should have known
You'd find a girl; be able to ensnare
Her with your easy charm, and that's fair,
I'm glad, you shouldn't have to be alone.

I'm glad you've found the 'all wonderful her',
I suppose you might tell me it was fate,
Or just good looks that brought you together,
But please, for me, take a second and wait,
I know its plain sailing, and good weather,
Be sure to look back, don't forget me mate.

That is the most liberating and assuring tribute to friendship and a very truthful message about enduring ties that recognise life situations and relational arrangements may alter but the is always room for the love of a friend in spite of these dynamics.
