some rambling words drawn from a character out of a novel I have just finished reading...

LA 1941

your words come in short sentences
they hit me like bricks
and take me to your door
slap me with the anger
the why
the question you resolve in your writing
the answer you absolve in your loathing
I hear about society
about war
the times you yearned
when you saw them there
in their college cars
and their rich kisses under perfect stars
on perfect lawns
in perfect bars
while you boiled with your boils
your ugliness
defined by a lying definition of beauty
even though your words were beautiful
too beautiful for words
so you chose the bottle
this is what you’d learned
so you wouldn't be infirmed
walked away from your beast of a father
your heartless mother
whose heart was removed by your father
who removed your heart
and the life you weren’t allowed to live
then the war you didn’t want to fight
because you knew it didn’t need fighting
Pearl Harbour
and a country that didn’t know what it was protecting
or being protected from
you just walked out of the room
and left
