I was on the bank. Everyone else was busy with "important stuff" like depositing money etc. But there was this little girl, 2 or 3 years old who kept pointing at the ceiling "Look, Mama!" She made the room shine up. © Erik Brickman 2011

In this world

In this world

We admire strength

And brute ability

But I say surrender

To the raw force of frailty

To the brilliance of childhood

In the huge question

Of a small girl's pointing finger

"Mama? Mama?"

It is beauty perfected

It is evidence enough

Of something more

Than what we believe

And put our petty trust in

In this world.

Morning Star
Very meaningful poem, and beautifully written.
I agree that frailty, our vulnerability, and choice to surrender opens the gate wide to truly receiving the richness within us.

How beautiful, Erik.
I too find inspiration in the simplicity of childhood. This piece captures well that sense of wonderment that leaves all too soon. As adolescence dawns, we hide our frailty behind all manner of masks and this proves a lasting habit, explains the peace dove! (Though it is with good reason that I hide here.)
Let us never cease to ask, Why? And ever to shrink from pettiness.
Applause!
