The willow tree splashed
a shadow; trampled dead leaves
by the fishing lake.
Sorry, I tried to speak but
for some reason I could not.

Natural occurrence followed by human emotive response!~
That indeed is a tanka! I love the twist, the finality and irreversability of the fallen tree and the trying to speak, after the fact when the occasion of having had the chance to speak had irrevocably passed.
