"The Fountain of Youth is a legendary spring that reputedly
restores the youth of anyone who drinks or bathes in its
waters". -9th April 2013

Fountain of youth.

Oh Fountain of Youth
You can't see these tears
Of memories pale.
Those I used to hold so dear;
Those that I have failed.

Oh Fountain of Youth
You can't hear my words
Of times gone by.
Those summers of black and white;
Those winters by the fireside.

Oh Fountain of Youth;
I have trusted and I have loved,
I have protected and I have lost.
I have lived a life of many costs.

Oh Fountain of Youth -
You are wasted on me.

The gentle sadness here took me by surprise. I can relate all too well.

When I first read this , another beautiful poem from John; well constructed and finely crafted.... a treasure. Then I read it again and the complexity and layered emotion and insight really impressed me. It was like fine bamboo, appearing delicate, but actually with a timeless strength. Excellent poem.
