as bright as a diamond

writing is about mundane things;
the way the electric lights
caress and illuminate the back lawn,
the sound of crickets in the night
and the way strangers
gather on public buses
to undertake
commonplace trips
to common places

it's about describing common things
in mystical ways,
broke fuckers
that refuse to beg on the streets,
live on the streets
or die on the streets

it's about making your way in life,
making your life
and beating the rock
even though it'll never shine
as bright as a diamond
in your own eyes

Rob Graber
A "heavy" subject handled with a nice light touch; I like especially the casual playing of the words at the end of the first stanza and the beginning of the last. Playing the words sets a poet apart from the crowd!
