OH! THE GLORY OF WAR! (WORLD WAR ONE)

War was started , some , a lot , joined up
Some , many did not rush to go off to the war
Some , well , not so keen , on going , preferring to remain a live
And in one peace , all body parts attached

Local papers had the names of those who been killed already
There were many , numbers grew by the day
The wounded , could be seen all over town
Some a leg or arm missing , a hand , fingers , a foot , or both
There were some had no faces , scape of an exploding shell
Or burnt off by a flamethrower
There were those who'd had no genteeler , their meet and two veg
Shot away , blown off , castrated

Come 1916 , came conscription , then the reluctants
Found them self's marching off to war , scared shitless
Not feeling at all heroic
They had seen the glory's of war around town
Now they marched off to suffer that glory!

This is a powerful poem, Ken. Forcing men (and now women) to go to war is criminal, to incite them with patriotism is just as bad.
What a sad picture you paint. Sure: "The Glory of War"! There are those who still believe in it.
