My biological dad wasn't health enough to care for his family properly due to his bipolar disorder and his abusive tendencies. This poem is for my stepfather who has been more than a father figure to me.

A Good Father

Always there when you need him and when you don't.

Golden days of youth behind him, leaving his foolish young self behind.
Old now, like he has been. Grey hairs beginning to appear.
Or maybe the lack of hair that is not appearing...
Doesn't really matter at this point because he's smiling a sweet smile at me.

Faster than the blink of an eye, he can no longer lift me off the ground and into his arms.
After all, I have grown up, but he is still Dad.
Today I celebrate the man who loves my mother, but didn't have to love me.
Hearing his laugh is like wheezing Fraggles.
Even after all these years, I have no harsh word to say towards him.
Really, Dad. Happy Father's day.

Very nice. Stepfathers and mothers are parents because they want to be and not because they have to. That is something to cherish.
