life in cockroach apartments

i hear crying
coming from outside my window -
"don't hit me again,"
says a desperate female voice,
choking through the tears
"i will fucking kill you bitch!"
yells back a macho male voice -
it's making it damn near impossible
to concentrate on my book

there's some more yelling
but then it quiets down again
and i get back to my reading,
to my life and to my escape
from my mundane reality

So sad that we live in a new century but still have barbaric domestic rituals. Something is wrong, that is that.

I think this poem is about how we become desensitized to our
environment much like soldiers in a war situation.. It's masterfully written.

It is so easy to forget those lives - I know this is not you, just your thoughts that explain the pain of lives that so many of us close our eyes to and open up that book to dream of other realities and dreams
