Looming Interregnum

I'm a little distracted.  I'm sorry.  I'm leaving,
Off to Japan, tra-la, tra-la.  I'll stagger through
Tokyo for a few days, then flash to the south
On the famed bullet train.  Shizuoka, Osaka,
Kyoto and Nara.  Maybe Hiroshima; I'll have
To see.  Picture me, with my beard, like a monk,
At the shrines and in castles, gazing at mountains
And out to the sea.  Monk-become-tourist, I'll
Have to buy trinkets for people back home,
And I'll have to try foods, you know, those
Locals eat.  All of them will be good, but, then,
Suddenly, I'll find that two weeks have passed,
And I'll have to come home, no longer a monk,
Just a weirdo with trinkets, somewhat more
Focused again.
