Editing to add: This was no casual stroll, but a necessary trek to the pharmacy. Warren Street is not the main avenue through town, and was chosen precisely because it would have sparse foot-traffic.




My walk down Warren Street

on the second Saturday
of "distancing"

was all forsythia
& friendliness

caution when approaching
the few smiling strangers

then

courtesy as natural
as vernal sunlight

hearts
unclenching
like the slack-petalled
bounty of Spring

This gentle, and gently reassuring, and the phrasing is lovely. It has the effect of a soothing, much needed, balm.

It must have been nice to be outside after a long "social distancing." The last stanza, the gem in the poem, portrays a beautiful picture.
