Because the dreams can't be all my fault.

Keep it Leashed

I dreamed of you again,

Two nights in a row.

Will you please

Instruct your dream spirit

To stay on its own side of town?

And I will do the same for mine.

It’s not the dreams I mind,

The dreams are wonderful;

It’s the awakening I can’t bear

And the crash.

variation 2:

I dreamed about you

Two nights in a row.

Would you please

Instruct your dream spirit

To stay on its own side of town?

I will do the same for mine.

She doesn’t listen very well;

Perhaps I need a leash.

Dreams are a bonus to be enjoyed

Paid for by the occasional nightmare.

Cheese on toast for supper helps (either way)

The way this tempts the reader into meticulous comparison of the versions is quite ingenious!

variation three: thank god for dreams. enjoy them, and deal with awakening as it comes. the dream spirit will do what it must.

i do like the options presented in 1 and 2, and the writing, of course, is precise.
