INCH BY INCH

So many thoughts racing through my mind
Looking for an enemy we cannot find
Inch by Inch, step by step
The enemy is behind that door I bet
Rifles ready, aim is sharp
I don't want to hear an angels harp
Sweeping for mines, explosions I fear
My friend is dead, something I don't want to hear
Inch by Inch, step by step
Close my eyes and picture my kid's footsteps
Foreign eyes watch and stare
US soldiers died for them, they don't care
They needed our help and no we are here
But I think we are the ones in fear
Inch by Inch, step by step, another house clear
Close my eyes and thank god I am still here
Down the steps and out the door
Bullets firing, hit the floor!!!
Can't see where or how far
That bullet wound is going to leave a scar
Inch by Inch, I crawl on the ground
Listening for the enemies sound
Whispering voices I can't understand
US soldiers need to make a stand
Inch by Inch, stone by stone
Continuously facing the unknown
