the capital
on a red letter day
his mum was called dot
but his dad had been erased
from their lives
mark stepped out of line
without his parents' thesis
and bracketed as irregular
the punctuation police
questioned mark
then booked mark
before inserting him
before a judge
mark was found guilty
and given a suspended sentence
but the stress was too much for him
mark started to eat his own words
he contracted a disease
of the colon
part of which was removed
now he had a semi-colon
at first he made a good recovery
he had plenty of dash
but one day he felt typo
he fell into a comma
poor mark never recovered
alas his short life came to a full stop.
