A flight of appreciation.

Journey

Amy Johnson,

Maid of Yorkshire grit,
Queen of the cramped cockpit,
Adventurous aviator,
Glamorous gyrator,
Pin-up girl of the open sky,
Darling of the do or die,
She flew her 'Jason' solo,
Brave pilot of her airborne Argo,
At the height of Art Deco,
Breaking records to and fro,
North to South, West to East,
She also found her Golden Fleece.

Amy Johnson,

Patriotic Brit,
Charon in a cold cockpit,
Ferrying a warplane from A to B,
Flying over the Thames estuary,
Getting lost and coming down
A few miles from old London town,
Amy's body has not been found to this day,
But her smiling statue stands in Herne Bay,
Looking to the heavens in a heroic Greek way.
