Bipolar

I remember the event:
A party of young British adventurers
Camped in the Arctic, intent
To experience the wildlife
In the land of dancing lights
And terse tundra.

One day the wildlife got
Too close for comfort -
A polar bear foraged
For human detritus
And found a boy,
Hunted him down
Like a dewy-eyed seal,
Killed him on the spot.

The boy was called Horatio,
An unusual name for the time.

Some months later
I read in a history magazine
That when he was a young
Midshipman, Admiral Lord Nelson
Was attacked by a polar bear
But managed to kill it
Before it killed him.

I know you're probably thinking
So what?

Well, Nelson's first name was
Horatio: now don't you think
That's a chilling coincidence?

You leave me speechless and full of thought...

Both poignant and profound.

Very interesting. I got the link when you mentioned his name. Perhaps it was revenge for his ancestor.
