My daughter and granddaughter often hike in the woods with their Australian Shepherd. Seeing nature through a child's eyes makes it even more magical.

The Promise Leaf

Darcy, child of nature
little girl of the woods
Three year old in plaid
dark braids hanging past your shoulders
dark eyes roaming in wonder
as you follow Mother's steps
down a narrow stony path
with Jakiepoo at your side
panting and waging his tail

Picking up an autumn leaf
of red and yellow hue
you run to catch your Mommy
as she nears a stream
With bright eyes of excitement
you present your treasure with pride
"It's a Promise Leaf Mommy"
you say with great expectation
"Put it in the water
and it will make everyone happy"

And so you toss it in and watch
as it floats contently downstream
Jakiepoo spins with joy
barking his approval
And Mommy and Darcy do a happy dance
in the sunbeam shining through the trees
proving your Promise Leaf true

This brings such joy and pure beauty of innocent life! How wonderfully you describe the magic, the love, the blessed gift of discovery and imagination of a child's mind.

But beyond all of that...

From granddaughter to mother to grandmother, the inspiration flows eternal. How beautiful God's creation is revealed again and again and again, through the generations, beginning this time, as it was with our Savior, with the child. Such beautiful poetry comes through God's plan.

Darcy is such an amazing gift of a girl! I am so privileged to be one of her great aunts!

The innocent view of this child and the pure joy of her actions come through so strongly. The graphic beauty of nature all together make this piece beautifully written and a joy to read.

one trick pony The PoetBay support member heart!
Any poem with a "happy dance" in it works for me, and this very sweet. I love the image of plaid and braids.
