An abandoned house in a faltering neighbourhood seen in passing.

Empty Chrysalis

Desolate decaying lifeless
Foliage rampantly camouflages
The brick and clapboards
Trim and paint in disarray

Once there was the scent
Of fresh cut pine linseed
Oil and linoleumed halls
Of lilac roses wisteria

Children's noises laundry
Snap on taut lines barked
Greetings from a backyard
Labrador and tree whispers

Now in dotage waiting
Silently forlorn empty
A shell of castoff detritus
Dead but for its memories
