"Dream a Little Dream of Me"

1931, Fabian Andre, Wilbur Schwandt, Gus Kahn

just saying

we work from home   as best we can

and we can order food

to be delivered   we don't need a lot   still

there are things that require going out

require closer contact

than we might like   i am the designated going-outer

bringing home the outside world with me

i cannot help but notice

that marketa pulls back a little   fewer kisses   fewer touches

which i understand   yet   it stings a bit

there is a line in a song

just saying this

i'm just saying this

making no judgment

`

"Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this."

Since I'm the guy you squeeze your cart past as I'm setting out toilet paper and wet wipes, I can't afford to think about contagion, and I don't. My wife and most of my kids are willing to take their chances with me, but one daughter won't let me into her house, won't come over, and won't let me see my granddaughter. That's what you're supposed to do, I know, but it hurts.

I just listened to "Dream a Little Dream of Me." It's beautiful. And so is your poem. As humans, we crave touch or feel or kiss, and I like the way you've portrayed that very emotion in the poem. Beautiful.
