Pacing pacing ever whirling

aimless with a twist of dread

wringing hands the brough is glistening

circular thoughts of silent treads

feel them coming ever closer

now the creak of measured boot

shadows move in drapes that smother

breath in snatches smoke and soot

rusty hinges groan in protest

oaken door forever locked 

begins it's horrid moving quest

in delirious motion slowed

Inexorable motion siezes my sense

as watching a cobra poised to strike

the moanings cause my heart to tense

my skin to crawl my eyes to white

in dripping bolt I free myself

from soaking sheets in tangled knot

the candle by my bedstead shelf

still burns beside the wormwood tot
