''A Lonely Soul, I Haunt This Crowded Earth'' (2nd draft)

A lonely soul, I haunt this crowded earth;
and ever solitary, I beside
remain un-cherished (never knowing mirth).
Woe am I! For wherefore do I confide
in Thee, O Lord? For, alone and unloved,
I perish year after many a long year;
for Thou hast not willed my dearly Beloved:
but, weary of my prayers, poised a deaf ear.
Nevertheless, Poesy's a comfort
I have thus found; a wonderful companion
whose craft is sempiternal life-support
(while I wilt away in this isolation).
Though loneliness, O Lord, be my disgrace,
withhold from me not Thy heavenly grace!
