FUTURE PAST

Sometimes I wonder at the
Prevocation of my past.
All I know for sure,
Nothingness seems to last.

Learning things of never-been,
Of days that never past.
To run the marathon of life,
Always to come in last.

I've always been a never-been,
Never singing praises of my past.
Knowing as in life,
Death is the only one that lasts.

I for one hope my future,
Never becomes
my ill never forgotten past.
For if it does,
I hope My future never lasts.

Alan, this is as good as it gets! I find in this poem so much of a tradition that evokes a self examination that (to me) has echo's of the Elizabethan poets. It is very good.
