Lines Composed in the Muse's AbsencePoets without new lines
are poets without a Muse;
poets whose rhymes do not flow
are poets we cannot use.
Like artists who do not paint,
or minstrels who do not sing;
the world has no time or place
for poets so fruitless in the spring.
If new lines were more plentiful,
and fresh rhymes were more flourishing;
the earth at this time of year
would thrive and be more nourishing.
