Translation of a war poem of 1918 by Ture Nerman

The loveliest song about love
never reached to be published.
It was stuck in a dream in Montmartre
with an impoverished student of Paris.
It should have spread light across countries
and made even spring kneel in worship,
and a world would have pressed to its heart
a new and another Musset.
He should have strolled along the quays
with a pale tiny blue-eyed Lucile
and made poems of kisses and violets
in a magical night of April.
But the loveliest song about love
never came to be published.
It was buried alive in a mass grave in Flanders
with the heart of a poor Paris student.
