The Old Town
The old town of splendour and whiteness
sparkles in the sunlight as the true queen of the sea,
once having conquered them all in boldest adventure
and indomitable stalwartness in glory without end.
The city was demolished totally in a disaster,
a renowned catastrophe that became the subject of a famous book,
which did not in any way diminish its eternal glory
of courageous enterprising brilliance, accomplishment
and wonderful success accompanied by the most melancholy songs
that ever were composed of the perpetual unfortunate love affair
between your people and the sea, that will be sung forever
in languishing heart-rendering laments of bitter sweetness
and excruciating dolour of a never answered love affair.
Your beauty will remain however and forever,
it is more than legendary and a perfect source of inspiration
for all poets, artists and musicians, as a manifested beauty
never will be able to get lost, either in reality
nor in the dreams of poets that forever will sustain it.
