forgotten candle

In the darkness, I grew jealous
Diminishing wild, untouched flames -
with a simple blow

But I had forgotten a lonesome candle
hanging on for dear life, on the dusty windowsill
Not even flickering, just a tiny ember you'd only notice come night

Too easy to target, too easy to snuff out
Much more difficult to nurture
so I cupped it in my unsteady hands

I whispered, "I'll take you from the cold wind,
bu I can't force you to stay alive
I'm no good at making anyone see the light no matter how bright"

Sometimes - just an extended hand seems to make all the difference
To be able to give or receive much needed help
When the flame grew tall, I felt a new warmth within myself
