the first cherries

are on the shelves

sweet

not too sweet

oh, that color!

reminds me of summer

sitting outside

spitting pits into the grass

reminds me

of robin

who liked cherry coke after school

reminds me

in a way

of my mother

don't know why

maybe it was those drives we used to take

when i was little

out to the fruit-stand on the edge of town

coming home

with fresh corn and tomatoes and peaches

and cherries

which reminds me that i sometimes still miss her

not to be maudlin

reminds me of her mother

my grandmother

sitting outside in her yard

spitting cherry pits

reminds me of robin

of mom

cherries are back on the shelf

sweet

not too sweet

Cherry pips, the start of a tree, like your ma and grandma, you, all part of the circle, the poem rhythm, start at the begining, ending at the start, everything in sync, the poem, the cycle, the family, very, very cleverly done
