When We Reach Out

What pleasant surprises
can result
from a moment of kindness,
a risk taken to reach out,
to not fear the stranger,
to connect in a world
of disconnection.

Walls can be built
to shield,
to disengage,
to expel.
Walls can be climbed,
or chipped away,
or cracked through,
or torn down completely.

What comforting peace
can result
from a moment of connection,
a risk to move forward,
to build instead of fear,
to reach towards each other
and build our wall together.

And what a fabulous world that would be, eh? I always think that mankind must be tolerant of fellow men. That would solve so many of the world's problems. Your poem expresses this in a quite novel way. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, Allen
