When one wants to help because she feels everything so deeply but knows her words, her tears, and her wishes have no power to change anything, she writes a poem imagining a way in which they could.

If Shapes Could Speak

If words could take shape,
mine would be fire-breathing dragons
taking flight in a flourish of wings,
hunting down those destroying our world.

If tears could take shape,
mine would be gold coins,
falling from the sky like winter snow,
filling the empty hands of those in need.

If wishes could take shape,
mine would be fierce embraces,
wrapping the weary in strength,
giving them hope to carry on.

And if all these shapes could rise together,
they would tear down the tyrants’ walls,
forging a future none could steal.
