Virgin in Prayer

Blue, blue skies over this pretty isle and all I see is..
Sassoferrato's -"Virgin in Prayer,"
Solemnly looking down on us,
At least for a colour palette and I'm thinking,
Bossa nova ,well it's fine, up until mid-day,
Until siesta's drench bathes you in calm,
In a cooled room, framed with,
White lace trimmed, cotton curtains,
Buffeting,
So, so gently,
Against the slatted shutters,
Abandoned, ajar.
But, on the red tiled terrace,
In the stubborn evening heat...
Jazz is the marmalade my friend,
And then , standards demand, Etta, Ella and the divine goddess Nina
Sending their prayers to the stars
