Eyes donated

Cataract hit blind
I sat blinking
at emptiness, waiting
for an eye transplantation,
hope
was quickly born I might see my unborn child,
and the world with fresh eyes
but
the donated eyes, reset
the terms of seeing.
Anything is easier
to do without, anything
rather than see your eyes become the other's
and say
I want this, this. Nothing is harder to say
'yes this' and not another.
