Wrote this poem while on vacation in Kentucky. We visited horse farms, race tracks, distilleries, a museum, and a Shaker Village. We also visited the home of my companion’s grandmother, still standing, now a school administrative building.

Bluegrass Journey

Blue grass and miles of fences,
Horses in fields,
Mansions on hills, testaments to endurance.

Limestone waters and four main grains,
Swirling bourbon,
Each sip a quiet experiment in time and fire.

Bluegrass and country songs,
Stories carried through generations
Of coal country and hard times.

A new religion, a celibate commune,
Innovation and cooperation,
A people shaking until they were gone.

A man and his memories,
Childhood summers revisited,
A beloved grandmother still revered.

A trip, a journey of discovery,
Two lovers newly minted,
Testing the shape of their future together.

I've got to commend you on this poem. I especially love, "Each sip a quiet experiment in time and fire" and "A people shaking until they were gone" which are absolutely brilliant. Blessings, Allen
