Once I was hiking with my daughter and two grandsons on a wooded path after a storm had come through. I had to cross a stream, balancing on rocks, and go over a large fallen tree. Thank goodness for grandsons. Thinking on how similar hiking is to dealing

After the Storm

Have you ever walked a wooded path
after a storm has passed through?
The way ahead is no longer clear;
debris lies where sunlight once glistened.
Fallen limbs and broken trees
obstruct and delay.
Once gentle streams now swirl,
a barrier to moving forward with purpose.

So it is with life’s long journey
when the unexpected comes to call.
We struggle to find the path again,
our emotions clouding our sight,
our tears blurring the trail beneath our feet.
What once were quiet trickles of sorrow
now overflow, engulf, immerse -
a barrier to moving forward with purpose.

But storms end, and paths are cleared.
The waters recede, and the woods grow quiet.
We learn to navigate our sorrows,
to seek new routes or clear the way ourselves.
Onward we walk - enduring -
the barriers fade away, not forgotten
but put aside
so we may move forward with purpose.
