Thinking about Christmas and the commercialism. There is such a push to give the perfect gifts and have exceptional decorations and all I can think is I just love the spirit that is buried deep.

Let It Come Softly

Christmas is upon us -
the over-the-top gift commercials
and merry tunes flood our waking hours
before the candy is eaten,
the turkey is thawed,
the lights are untangled.

Christmas should not be thrust upon us,
but come to visit as a beloved guest -
neither overwhelming
nor stress-inducing,
but bringing with it the quiet joy
of anticipation,
and the promise of joy that awaits.

So this year, let it come softly.
Let us fill our souls rather than our stockings.
Let us look past wants and see the needs.
Let us put love first -
not with more stuff,
but with more giving.
Let our love lead the way.

Melinda, i just love the message, and in consequence the poem. Unfortunately - certainly in Western people - the desire for more stuff gets implanted in their psyche from the very beginning of life. Just think, the whole basis of government, commerce and personal progression is 'growth'. Of course it is flawed, hence the economic crashes for example. But Mankind is, if nothing else it seems, stupid. Blessings, Allen PS: There is nothing wrong in desiring change!
