I wrote this to my love to convey to him the magnitude of what I feel, a completeness when I am with him. The most amazing thing about this new relationship is the total lack of anxiety about its continuance. I’m not second guessing myself or him.

Perfectly Fitted

My love, we barely know each other,
yet we’ve eased together
like the last two pieces
of a thousand-piece puzzle.
The image is complete -
a collage of memories and faces,
of all we’ve loved before.
Each piece distinct,
once two puzzles - now one.

My love, we barely know each other.
If our life were an hour long,
we have been together mere seconds.
So why do the seconds
we are apart now
feel like an eternity -
as if the hands are paused
until the clock can start again?

My love, we barely know each other,
but in the not-known
there is such sweetness -
portraits unveiling,
revealing who we were
and who we might become,
now safely settled
in this tender beginning,
our journey onward just begun.

So as the days unfold,
let our time together
draw us ever closer.
For love isn’t measured by time that remains,
but in the way two souls
find their rhythm
living in the present,
perfectly fitted,
together and complete now -
like the last two pieces
of a thousand-piece puzzle.
