A poem for anyone who has ever felt their voice diminished into silence in order to survive.
to respond to my truth
with dismissal and judgment,
the less I opened my mouth
to speak my truth
with conviction and courage.
This was my choice -
to retreat into myself.
A person can bear only so much
before the mirror becomes
a place to search
for who they used to be -
spirit dimmed,
voice muted,
the body enduring
what the mind could not.
Gazing at your reflection
becomes a rescue mission
for the soul.
If this is you,
keep looking.
Those who question
why you stayed,
who judge
and call you weak -
they have no idea
what survival cost.
One day you will look
in that mirror
and see your spirit
once again
reflected back
in your eyes.
And when your voice returns,
it will carry the strength
of someone
who has walked through the darkness
and fought for the light.
You are back.

Spiral Into Silence
The more he opened his mouthto respond to my truth
with dismissal and judgment,
the less I opened my mouth
to speak my truth
with conviction and courage.
This was my choice -
to retreat into myself.
A person can bear only so much
before the mirror becomes

for who they used to be -

voice muted,
the body enduring
what the mind could not.
Gazing at your reflection
becomes a rescue mission
for the soul.
If this is you,

Those who question
why you stayed,
who judge
and call you weak -
they have no idea
what survival cost.
One day you will look
in that mirror
and see your spirit
once again
reflected back
in your eyes.
And when your voice returns,

who has walked through the darkness
