It’s been a rough week in America. Honestly, it’s been up and down for a while now but in the last year it’s been like falling off a cliff into a bottomless pit. When will we reach the end? Will we be able to climb out?
A word they bandy about
as if it’s a one-sided ploy.
As if forcing
patriarchal Christian nationalism
down our throats
is not meant to
control,
diminish,
erase.
Those who believe
it will only touch “others”
have no idea
how deeply
indoctrinated
they already are.
2. Domestic terrorism.
An accusation they throw about
to spread fear and stoke division.
As if forcing through barriers
and breaking through windows,
shouting words seeking
death and destruction
was not meant to
control,
diminish,
erase.
Those who believe
that peacefully protesting
is domestic terrorism
have already
lost the freedom
they claim to defend.
3. Leftist scum.
A description they employ
to criminalize empathy.
As if loving our neighbors
and supporting diversity
weakens instead of
strengthens our country.
We will not be
controlled,
diminished,
erased.
We who stand
for justice and freedom
will not be silenced.
Our voices
will echo
for generations.
