The Caltrops of Spacetime
As I understand it, I am being forced
into spacetime,
constantly exposed to all its manifestations
By a simple automotive analogy
I am an old Volvo Amazon
from the age of free speed,
expected to demand of myself the full elegance
of a modern electric car’s humming comfort
I “stumble over the unreasonable”
and its ever more densely scattered caltrops
I stumble over “ever higher degree”
and “ever lesser extent”;
while possessions take on the character of an estate
Life expectancy & chances of survival
tremble at the cuff,
and probabilities often fail to answer
Fate considers itself, rightly, challenged…
Yes, spacetime is beginning to suffer a shortage
of both space and reprieve
It is probably the end of free speed
