Written February 8, 2026 and dedicated to two little girls who welcomed me into the sanctuaries of their bedrooms soon after we were introduced. They then proceeded to thrust item after item at me in a frenzy of sharing. It was just lovely.
an invitation to enter
her inner world,
where imagination lives
and dreams are spun.
Happiness evident in the chaos.
A creation - paint and flowers,
crinkled photos,
stations pointed out
for work and play,
squishy-soft pillows.
“Guess my favorite animal.”
Do you see me? Accept me?
the unspoken questions -
trust in the future
hanging delicately
on acceptance in the moment.
I feel the honor of being invited.

The Invitation
“Come see my room” -an invitation to enter
her inner world,
where imagination lives
and dreams are spun.
Happiness evident in the chaos.
A creation - paint and flowers,
crinkled photos,
stations pointed out
for work and play,
squishy-soft pillows.
“Guess my favorite animal.”
Do you see me? Accept me?
the unspoken questions -
trust in the future
hanging delicately
on acceptance in the moment.
I feel the honor of being invited.
