After myocardial stress test, part one,
This is what they've found so far.

HUMMINGBIRD HEART

Guess you gotta laugh,
I've been told that I,
Have a hummingbird heart.

Just because my heart,
Beats far to fast. It moves
Quicker than the rest of me.

I've been told it flutters,
The faster it gets,
The slower I get.

I've always considered,
Myself a disaster.
To scared to sit still.

Being bullied in life,
I learnt to run faster.
My heart never slows.

The faster it goes,
As I walk down the road.
My body gives out..

I have to slow down,
Before I fall down,
I pick up my phone.

Before I realise it,
My grandson is here,
To help me back home.

The image is powerful. Just watching the occasional hummingbird outside my kitchen window makes me feel exhausted. It seems impossible that something so small could make such a fuss. Take care of yourself and keep writing poems.

Alan,

The last bit about your grandson especially touched my heart as I finished up reading your poem. Most of my grandchildren live far away but when I do see them I am just so happy. I’m glad you have one near.

Your poem made me think of the song “Beautiful Disaster” by Kelly Clarkson.

Sincerely,
Melinda
