Visiting Edisto Island, SC and had a lovely time sitting and walking along the beach. Wish I could sometimes shut off my brain though.

Shoreline Interruption

Watching the glimmer
of sunlight on water,
ripples approach-
rising, turning, rounding
into a wave,
surging, crisscrossing,
then flattening
into foamy half-circles.

A sandpiper scurries
away,
looking this way
and that.

For a moment
there is escape.
But the peace
does not endure.

Intrusive thoughts,
an old movie scene,
rise from the deep:
Lady Liberty
buried in the sand.
