And I am so thankful they didn’t.
when I warned them
to always be careful
and never take risks,
to deny themselves
the joys that come
from kayaking
on a deep, dark lake,
life jacket untouched
from hiking
through thick woods
where wild animals wait
from climbing
a trail to a mountain cliff
no thought of the fall below.
No, my children did not listen.
They are braver than their mother.

They Did Not Listen
My children did not listenwhen I warned them
to always be careful
and never take risks,
to deny themselves
the joys that come
from kayaking

life jacket untouched
from hiking

where wild animals wait
